Why AI didn't replace the craft. It replaced the wait.

AI didn't replace the craft. It replaced the wait. Here's what that actually means for the people commissioning work.

A POV from Rishi Bhattacharjee, CEO of TopScout.

For most of the last decade, the bottleneck in advertising wasn't the idea. It was the wait.

A TVC that took eight weeks. A motion film that took twelve. An animation that took longer than the campaign window it was meant to live in. Whole quarters spent watching budget burn while a vendor finished a render.

That bottleneck has now collapsed.

In 2025, we shipped India's first fully AI-visual-generated digital ad for DermiCool, in partnership with Wondrlab and Emami. End-to-end in 30 days. The result, DermiCool Warriors, won YouTube's Best of Ads India 2025.

Thirty days for the kind of work that historically took four months.

What didn't change

The craft. The strategy. The script. The taste. The number of times someone in the room had to say no, that doesn't work, do it again.

AI did not replace any of that. AI replaced the waiting between rounds of doing it again.

What changed for clients

By 2025, 72% of marketers ranked generative AI as the single most important shift in their work, up 15 points in a year (Mediaocean). Yet most are still spending it on the wrong thing: cheaper ads.

The real gift isn't cheaper ads. It's the ability to iterate inside a sprint. Three creative directions tested in the time one used to take. Region-specific cuts shipped in days. A storyboard-to-final-film loop measured in hours.

The agencies that get this aren't the ones with the biggest AI tool stacks. They're the ones that re-architected their production pipeline around faster iteration.

What this brief is

This is the first post in TopScout's journal. We'll publish two POVs a month from Rishi (sometimes Shruti) on what's actually happening in creative right now: from the AI floor, the influencer floor, and the client floor.

No "thought leadership." No predictions. Just what we're seeing, and what we're doing about it.

Old-world craft. New-world pace.
