Content Creators vs Influencers

Let’s preface this a bit.

The time we spend on social media. The likes, comments, and posts that come out of our endless scrolling feeding our hunger to consume more content.

The people we follow on social media. People who tap into the very elements that make us human, develop our desires, anxieties, and joys.

Now when being exposed to so many people on a regular basis they all start to seem alike.
Instagram especially is completely overflowing with all sorts of images of beauty, aesthetics, value, and wholesome content.
And although it may seem like anyone with a phone can grow an audience and eventually work with brands, there is a stark difference between content creators and influencers. And often they are considered the same. Often even used in place of on another.

But what exactly is an Influencer? What makes you a content creator? Can you call yourself both? Who is a content creator on social media?

As simple as it may seem. A content creator basically creates content. They can be highly skilled photographers, videographers, graphic designers, VFX artists, writers, poets, artists.
They create or develop high-quality content mostly to showcase their skills or as a form of self-expression and are involved in the process from start to finish.
They often use their ability to take visual creativity to max levels. They will under no circumstance compromise on their creativity. When it comes to following, they don’t necessarily worry about having large audiences.

But the following that they have will be genuine, niche and original. This is because the following is earned completely basis their creativity.
They also do not worry about building their profiles for the purpose of making money. Their entire focus is on showcasing their art or skill and they command trust from their audience in the process.
Content creators are passionate and know exactly what they are capable of while creating genuine content.
Who is an Influencer on social media?
The influencer. The faces of brands. Famous for their personalities are individuals that understand to way intent works. They can be vloggers, storytellers, opinion givers, reviewers, comedians.

An influencer is an expert at grabbing attention, even if it compromises on the quality of their content. They amass a following that comes from marketing themselves as personal brands and well..influence.
Influencers have the ability to build huge communities and often connect and influence their audience’s purchasing decisions with recommendations and reviews.
It’s statistically proven that more people trust influencer recommendations than branded content. That’s why you’ll find more faces associated with brands than the brand name itself.

Depending on your campaign needs and goals, you’ll find influencers across all kinds of categories, budgets, and audience sizes.
Influencers may have authority over their audience, but when it comes to branded
content they are usually limited to a script or brief shared by the brand.
Influencers are desirable individuals that are able to move a sentiment using their authority.
Marketers enjoy the benefits of choice when it comes to marketing their products or services online (especially social media). Depending on the needs, they have access to storytellers that use a mix of visuals and music to promote the ecosystem of advertising in a modern light.

And with the social landscape changing constantly, it does not matter that we look at the differences between these ever-existing social media movers. It really comes down to how brands would like to engage and leverage creators and influencers.
The end-users will always one common factor no matter what mode of influence is adopted: The ability to hold their attention.
